Marcus Williams
The Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year saved his best performance of the season for last in NDSU’s 39-13 win against Sam Houston State to win its second straight FCS national championship. Marcus Williams intercepted two passes to total seven on the year.
With the score tied 3-3 in the second quarter, Williams intercepted a Brian Bell pass and returned it 17 yards. Five plays and 72 yards later, NDSU took a 10-3 lead on a Brock Jensen 20-yard run.
The Bison rolled from there and Williams put his finishing touches on the game. Up 39-13, he picked off Bell one more time late in the fourth quarter. NDSU intercepted Bell three times and Chris Grett once, with Carlton Littlejohn and Andre Martin getting in on the fun.
